St. Louis, Missouri Invisalign

Invisalign is a tooth-straightening system for adults which is easy to use and most people won’t even be able to see it. Straightening your teeth can boost your self confidence and help prevent tooth decay and tooth loss. Many people believe that it is difficult or impossible to straighten adult teeth, but this is not the case. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Quigless can straighten your teeth and you won’t have to wear braces.

How Invisalign works
Using a series of clear aligners, Invisalign gently nudges your teeth into correct positions. There are no brackets or wires. Each pair of aligners is custom crafted to fit your upper and lower teeth and to make subtle adjustments. Your will wear each pair for two weeks and then change to the next pair. The aligners can and should be removed while you eat and brush your teeth.

Most people need about one year to achieve straight teeth. Some use as many as 60 pairs of aligners. The entire process lasts anywhere from six months to two years.

Benefits of Invisalign
Straightening your teeth has social benefits and protects your dental health. Studies have found that people make certain assumptions about people with straight teeth, believing that they:

  • Are in better health
  • Are more trustworthy
  • Have a higher income

Many people are embarrassed by crooked teeth and try to hide their smile. This can make you appear unfriendly or unhappy, and you may not even realize you are doing it. Straightening your teeth can change how you approach people and brighten the image you present.

More importantly, straightening your teeth can relieve pain and help you keep your natural teeth. Crooked teeth can lead to:

Neuromuscular Dentistry
The idea that you can’t straighten adult teeth is a myth. In fact, straightening your teeth as an adult has advantages over doing it earlier in life.

Some of us spent years in braces and appliances, stretching and reshaping our mouths as teenagers, only to have our teeth become crooked again in adulthood. As our mouths and bodies develop we undergo changes which can cause our teeth to become crowded or crooked again. Wisdom teeth erupting incorrectly can be one reason that adolescent tooth straightening does not last, as the wisdom teeth can crowd the rest.

Your adolescent orthodontics experience may have also caused painful TMD. Realigning your teeth without also properly aligning your jaw joints can leave you with many painful symptoms. Only a neuromuscular dentist has the knowledge and tools to properly align your teeth, bite, and jaw joints in a coherent treatment. If you are having headaches, facial pain, or other unexplained symptoms, please read more on our Neuromuscular Dentistry page.

Alternatives to Invisalign
Invisalign will truly straighten your teeth, but it does take time and effort. If you have minor tooth alignment problems and want a quick and easy solution, you may want to consider Instant Orthodontics, which uses porcelain veneers to correct the appearance of your teeth in one treatment.

No matter what your age, you don’t have to be stuck with crooked teeth. Dr. Quigless offers several solutions for crooked teeth. If you are in the St. Louis area, please call or email our invisalign office to learn how you can have straight, healthy teeth. We look forward to hearing from you and scheduling your free Invisalign appointment. To learn more, please read our Invisalign Questions.
