White Composite Fillings
Even with excellent dental health and good dental hygiene most of us need fillings at some point in life. Cosmetic dentist Dr. Quigless offers white composite fillings that blend in beautifully with your natural teeth and protect them from damage. Porcelain inlays and onlays and white composite fillings can all provide a beautiful, healthy solution for small holes and areas of decay, stopping damage in its tracks and strengthening your teeth.
Inlays and onlays
Our inlays and onlays are made of porcelain. Using CEREC technology we make your inlays and onlays here in our office, so you can have them in one visit instead of having to wait for a dental lab to make them. They are custom-crafted to fit precisely and to match the color of your natural teeth. Amalgam fillings can fracture and damage your teeth, weakening them. Porcelain inlays and onlays increase strength by being bonded to the tooth, rather than packed tightly into the cavity. That bonding exerts a pull on the tooth’s periphery, holding it strongly together.
The difference between inlays and onlays is size and placement. Inlays are smaller and placed inside the cusp tips of your tooth. Onlays cover one or more of the cusp tips and are larger, covering one or more outside surface.
White composite fillings
White Composite fillings are made of a tooth-colored composite resin. It starts out as a paste which Dr. Quigless places in the cavity, and then sculpts into the right shape. The filling is hardened with a curing light and then polished.
Whether we use porcelain or white composite fillings, all decay and damaged tooth material is removed before the filling is placed. These tooth colored materials are stable and will not compromise the integrity of your tooth or cause hot and cold sensitivity. Our white fillings restore the health and beauty of your smile.
Silver amalgam used to be the only option when you needed a filling. A few dentists still offer those unsightly metal fillings. We do not. For more information, please see our page on Why We Don’t Offer Amalgam Fillings.
If you already have amalgam fillings, we can replace them with white fillings, restoring the beauty of your smile, repairing any damage your old fillings may have caused and protecting your teeth from further decay. Filling replacement is often a part of a complete Smile Makeover, and is often one of the first cosmetic dentistry solutions people ask for.
